WhatsApp Mobile Recharge Feature: Making digital payments easier in India WhatsApp has launched a new feature, through which now users will be able to recharge their mobile directly inside the app. The popular instant messaging platform owned by Meta has partnered with a Netherlands-based payments company to launch this feature.
This feature will be available for both Android and iOS users in the coming weeks. The special thing is that now prepaid users can complete the recharge by selecting the plan within WhatsApp without going to any other app.
Airtel, Jio and Vi users will get direct benefits
This new update of WhatsApp is going to directly benefit crores of prepaid users of Airtel, Jio and Vodafone Idea (Vi). Users can view different recharge plans and complete their mobile recharge in just a few taps.
This feature is currently being rolled out phase wise, but will soon be available to all users. Before this, WhatsApp is also providing the facility of bill payment and metro ticket booking in some cities of India.
Payment made easier
Keeping in mind the convenience of the users, WhatsApp has added a new rupee (₹) icon on the home screen of the app. This icon will appear near the camera, by tapping on which users can go directly to the payment section.
From here, services like mobile recharge, money transfer (via UPI) and metro tickets can be used. Not only this, this ₹ icon will also be present in the chat window, so that users can send payment instantly during the conversation itself.
How to recharge mobile on WhatsApp
WhatsApp Mobile Recharge has made the recharge process very easy. Users just need to follow a few easy steps:
- Tap on ₹ icon
- Select Mobile Prepaid Recharge option
- Select your number or enter a new number
- confirm operator
- Select a plan from the available plans
- Select payment mode (UPI, Debit Card, Credit Card)

UPI users can complete transactions securely through their UPI PIN. After recharge, a confirmation screen with complete details will appear on the app.
Transaction history will also be easily available
According to WhatsApp, users can see all their recharge and payment information by going to the History section. This will make it easier to keep an eye on every transaction and having the new feature of WhatsApp Mobile Recharge at one place will make the work easier.
