LSG Get Major Boost as Josh Inglis Confirms IPL 2026 Return Date
Cricket Gully | April 20, 2026 10:39 PM CST

Lucknow Super Giants to be boosted with the arrival of Australian wicketkeeper batter Josh Inglis for the second half of Indian Premier League 2026 season. The franchise has failed to get going this season winning just two from six games and currently placed in eighth place on the points table.

The Australian wicketkeeper batter was expected to miss the first half of the season with his wedding on April 18 which had previously alerted the franchise to his unavailability. He is expected to fly into India over the next week or two and could make it in time for LSG's tie against Mumbai Indians on May 4. If he arrives on time, Inglis is likely to represent LSG in their final six league games of the season which could prove vital in LSG's playoff hopes.

Inglis to Strengthen LSG's Batting Lineup

LSG's batting has struggled this season with a lack of consistency through the middle order. The LSG batting line-up has relied a lot on foreign players with the presence of Mitchell Marsh, Aiden Markram and Nicholas Pooran in the top and middle order but they haven't clicked yet. Though Markram and Marsh have played some decent knocks, the major concern for LSG is the form of Pooran. The southpaw, who was a linchpin for LSG in IPL 2025, has had a poor campaign thus far having registered just 51 runs from six innings in the tournament at a strike-rate of 80.

With the arrival of the 31-year-old wicketkeeper batter, LSG could get the much-needed stability and firepower. He had a decent Indian Premier League 2025 where he represented Punjab Kings scoring 278 runs at a striking rate of 162.57. The aggressive nature and versatility in his game is something LSG could be looking for.

Even though LSG were aware of Inglis' absence in the first half of the season they still splashed the cash on the batter and shelled out 8.6 crore. His addition is likely to help LSG find the correct combination with their overseas players as LSG haven't used the fourth overseas option consistently this season. George Linde and Anrich Nortje haven't been given the chance to cement their place.

Nortje Exit is Another Concern for LSG

Though Inglis returning is good news for LSG their second overseas pacer Anrich Nortje departed the camp last week. His whereabouts are currently unknown and it's not known as to why he left the camp. Nortje played just a game for LSG so far this season which was against Delhi Capitals where he went wicketless and leaked 39 runs in his 4 over spell.

LSG who suffered a huge 54 run defeat to Punjab Kings will face Rajasthan Royals on 22nd of April. The tournament has reached its climax and the LSG camp would look to make quick changes in order to have any say in the playoff chances. Inglis' return would provide some good news to them, but they would require good performances in all the aspects for the remainder of the tournament and for IPL 2026.
