GB News was interrupted for an urgent update on the migration crisis in the UK, as presenters Stephen Dixon and Ellie Costello announced that four people have died while attempting to cross the English Channel. GB News' Home and Security Editor shared further details on the breaking news, revealing the incident unfolded off the coast of Boulogne this morning.

He said: "A major rescue operation swung into action when reports came in that multiple migrants were seen in the water. It's believed that this was another one of these incidents where people smugglers are trying to cram too many people on these small boats. There's not enough room. People are falling out. They're unable to scramble on board in deeper water.

"When rescue services got there, they recovered a significant number of migrants from the water. According to French media, they are reporting that at least four people may have died. This has not been confirmed yet by French authorities but it is being reported by a number of media outlets in France."

Mark said that people smugglers are taking advantage of the good weather in the Channel before it changes.

He continued: "A number of attempts were made by people smugglers to push small boats out into the English Channel. This is the third day of reasonable weather in the Channel and the last day for quite a few days because the weather's going to close in.

"People smugglers are taking advantage of that, trying to put a number of boats out. Several of those boats have got into difficulty, including the one off Boulogne-sur-Mer."

He revealed that another two boats have made it into open water and are being escorted towards UK waters by French patrol.

"If they have the same kind of numbers that we saw yesterday, which was more than 80 on each of the boats, then already today we're talking more than 150 would have crossed the Channel for the third day in a row."

Ellie said that GB News viewers have questioned whether the French can be held responsible for the deaths in the Channel, especially as the UK is sending money to the French in order to stop the boats.

Mark responded: "The French have patrol ships in the English Channel that intervene when these small boats get into difficulty, but then there's the other question about how these people smugglers allowed to launch the boats in the first place."
