
Varanasi, 9 April. Interpol has issued a Red Corner Notice against Shubham Jaiswal, the alleged kingpin of the cough syrup smuggling case containing codeine. According to the police, the extradition process has been expedited to bring Shubham, who is hiding in Dubai, to India. The Home Ministry has confirmed that he is in Dubai.

31 year old Shubham, the main accused in illegal business worth more than two thousand crore rupees, is a resident of Prahladghat locality under Adampur police station of Varanasi city. Shubham has already been declared a fugitive in the cases of Kotwali and Rohaniya police stations. Now the property confiscation proceedings are also moving ahead against him.
A chargesheet of 39 thousand pages is filed in the court against 18 accused including Shubham and his father.

It is noteworthy that a large quantity of cough syrup containing banned codeine was recovered on November 19 last year in Rohaniya police station of Varanasi Commissionerate. In this case, after investigation, the police filed the charge sheet in the court on February 12, 2026. During investigation, it came to light that the main mastermind of this gang is Shubham Jaiswal, son of Bhola Prasad Jaiswal, who has fled to Dubai to avoid arrest.
Interpol and CBI action
With the activeness of Varanasi Police and coordination with CBI, an application for Red Corner Notice was sent to Interpol. After the issue of notice from Interpol, now the security agencies of United Arab Emirates (UAE) will take him into custody.
After the Red Corner Notice, the legal process for extradition of the accused to India has now been started.
