New Delhi: Hours after the US and Iran agreed to a two-week ceasefire, US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth held a press briefing at the Pentagon. He clearly said that the American Army has achieved a decisive victory in the war. According to Hegseth, President Donald Trump’s last-minute decisions changed the entire situation and created history.

Hegseth said that before the ceasefire, American forces had severely weakened Iran’s military capability. He claimed that this advance of America created a strong position in the talks.

‘Iran’s future is in our hands’: Hegseth

In his statement the Defense Secretary stressed, "The future of Iran is in our hands." He told that despite the ceasefire, America still has strategic and military superiority. Hegseth said that American forces registered such victories in the battlefield, which gave confidence to the administration.

He made it clear that Iran will never be able to acquire nuclear weapons. The terms of the ceasefire are in line with America’s security needs. Hegseth said the US had options to completely destroy Iran’s economy, but President Trump showed restraint.

Trump’s ‘mercy’ and new warning

The Defense Secretary said that Trump chose the diplomatic path by stopping the war, which he called a decision of mercy. He said, "Trump could have destroyed Iran’s economy, but he exercised restraint."

Hegseth also warned that if Iran does not hand over its enriched uranium, the US could attack again. He said that Iran will give it voluntarily, otherwise nuclear sites can be targeted like in previous attacks. He further said, "We maintain this option".

Global reactions and challenges ahead

After the announcement of ceasefire, the discussion has intensified all over the world. It is clear from Hegseth’s statement that America is considering this agreement as its victory. However, there remains a lack of trust from both sides.

It is believed that this two-week ceasefire can be the first step towards permanent peace, but Iran will have to completely stop its nuclear program. The Trump administration’s stance is strict and any violation will not be tolerated.
