Iran has appealed to the United Nations (UN) to take immediate action after US President Donald Trump admitted that the US had tried to send weapons to Iranian protesters. Iran says that Trump’s statement is a flagrant violation of the United Nations Charter and international law.
Iran’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Amir Saeed Iravani, said in a letter to the UN Secretary-General and the Security Council that the statement was a clear attempt to incite violence and interfere in Iran’s internal affairs. “This is part of a longstanding US policy of arming and funding terrorist groups in the Middle East and elsewhere. This is against the UN Charter and international law,” he said.
Let us tell you, Iravani also said that this effort of America is an attempt to convert peaceful protests in Iran into violence and unrest. He urged the Security Council to strongly condemn these dangerous statements and ensure that no country supports terrorism.
The letter held the US responsible for the damage caused to Iranian citizens and civil infrastructure during the protests in December 2025 and January 2026. Iran has also appealed to the UAE and Saudi Arabia to maintain the principles of good neighborliness.
Trump recently admitted in a public event that the US had tried to send weapons to Iranian protesters, but the effort failed. “We sent a lot of guns, but the people who were sent the guns kept them,” Trump said. Along with this he said that “some people are responsible for this and they will have to pay a heavy price.” Although Trump did not provide any specific information about who had sent the weapons, he had earlier blamed “Kurdish middlemen” without any evidence.
The development comes in the context of massive anti-government protests in Iran earlier this year, where Trump also said that “help is on the way” for protesters.
