Regarding this, the government says that this step is very important to stop tax evasion, but there has been a question about privacy.
Why is a new bill being brought?
Income Tax Bill 2025 is now going to replace the Income Tax Act 1961. The government believes that the current laws were made according to the old era, which is not in line with today's digital technology. Therefore, some such changes are being made in this, which will have digital access to tax officers.
What changes can happen?
The new bill virtual digital space may include social media accounts, email servers, online investment and trading accounts, cloud storage and platforms like WhatsApp, Telegram, Email. If a person does not give an access tax of their digital accounts such as email, WhatsApp to officers, then under the new bill, tax officers can bypass security and access your data.
Tax officers will eye
According to media reports, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has admitted that the message on WhatsApp and other encrypted platforms has revealed tax evasion and unaccounted assets. The definition of undeclared income has been further expanded in this bill. Sitharaman has thrown light on the fact that such provisions are not new and are currently present under Section 132 of the IT Act, 1961. If a man discusses such transactions on WhatsApp or other social media platforms, then tax officers will also be monitored.
