Bank Strike: For a long time, the demand of banking employees in India is to work five days a week (Monday to Friday). The United Forum of Bank Unions has announced a nationwide bank strike on 24 and 25 March. This is also included in their many demands. Currently, banks work for six days. 

There must be a work-life balance

Bank employees will be on strike across the country on Monday and Tuesday after the failed talks between the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) and the Indian Banks Association (IBA) on several issues other than the 5-day work week. Now the question arises that why are bank unions demanding a five-day work week? The union says that it is very important to have a balance between work and life, so a demand for five working days a week is being made for bank employees. 

That's why this demand is being made

Working six days a week does not allow one to have time for oneself or family, nor for anyone else. There is no time to pay attention to physical and mental health. Bank employees believe that working five days a week will make them more productive, their performance will improve. This will also prevent stress and fatigue. Overall, the work environment will be better. Bank employees have argued that in most countries of the world, banks work only five days a week. 

Other demands of the union

• There should be adequate recruitment in all cadres so that the workload is reduced. 
• Demand to withdraw performance-based appraisal and incentive scheme.
• Regularization of temporary employees. 
• Demand to ensure safety of bank employees. 
• Demand to fill up the posts of workers or officer directors in PSBs. 
• Demand to amend the Gratuity Act and increase the maximum limit to Rs 25 lakh.
