WhatsApp has become an important part of our lives. Chatting with loved ones, official work, media or file sharing, sharing news every moment in society or family group, where is WhatsApp not used. By June this year, WhatsApp had a user base of more than 300 crores. In such a situation, it becomes most important for us to keep our personal information safe on this platform. If an outsider gets access to your WhatsApp, it means the leaking of your chats with your family or loved ones, your media files, or many important official chats.
Although WhatsApp cannot be set up without OTP, do you know that the messaging platform owned by Meta gives its users an extra layer of security? We are talking about two-factor authentication, in which, according to the platform's claim, it will be impossible for an outsider to gain unauthorized access to your account. Two-step verification adds a special PIN to your account to access it. This is a simple but effective way to prevent hackers from gaining access to your WhatsApp, even if they have your SIM card.
In this guide, we will walk you through the steps to enable and manage two-step verification, ensuring that your chats, media, and personal details stay private and secure.
First, open WhatsApp.
Now tap on the three-dot menu in the top right corner (on Android devices) or the Settings icon in the bottom right corner on iOS.
Now go to Account and select the Two-Step Verification option.
Here you have to tap on Turn on.
WhatsApp will ask you to set a 6-digit PIN. Here you have to set a PIN that you will always remember.
Now WhatsApp will ask you to add a recovery email. You can also skip this option, but it would be wise to submit the email because even if you forget the PIN, you can recover it through email.
After setting the PIN and email, two-step verification will be enabled on your WhatsApp.
You can disable it or change the PIN by going back to the Two-step verification option inside the account. Apart from this, avoid entering a PIN that can be easily guessed, such as more than two repeating numbers, your date of birth, etc. Do not share your set PIN with anyone.
