Manchester United are reportedly planning another major overhaul of their goalkeeping department this summer, with two current players likely to depart in the upcoming transfer window.
Andre Onana has been widely criticised for his performances, with many considering him among the weakest goalkeepers in the club’s history. Although INEOS would prefer to sell him permanently, a loan spell at Trabzonspor remains a possible outcome.
Altay Bayindir, his understudy, endured a disastrous start to the season, which prompted INEOS to sign Senne Lammens. The move proved to be a masterstroke as the Turkish international was thereafter confined to the bench on a permanent basis.
The former Fenerbahce goalkeeper is eager for regular playing time, and a return to Turkey seems to be on the cards. Third-choice keeper Tom Heaton is expected to remain at the club, though it is unlikely that he will be elevated to the role of backup goalkeeper.
Many fans hope to see Radek Vitek, who impressed on loan, take over Bayindir’s place. However, keeping him only for limited cup appearances would not serve his development. A decisive transfer for profit could instead strengthen the club’s finances and allow INEOS to invest in a more dependable deputy for Lammens.
According to reports from Gazzetta dello Sport (via Sport Witness), Manchester United have revived their interest in Japanese goalkeeper Zion Suzuki. The 20-time English champions are said to be back in the hunt for the promising shot-stopper.
Previously linked with a move to Old Trafford two years ago, Suzuki, now 23, opted to join Belgian side Sint-Truiden VV before moving to Parma. Away from the intense spotlight of Manchester United, the 6-foot-2-inch goalkeeper has matured into a strong and reliable performer.
After recovering from a broken hand, Suzuki managed six clean sheets across competitions, playing a vital role in helping Parma avoid relegation. His progress has earned praise, with many describing him as one of Parma’s most improved players, particularly for his composure and passing ability that initiate fast counterattacks.
His impressive displays have attracted attention from several European clubs, and United are reportedly ‘preparing to make a move’ this summer. Other interested teams include Galatasaray, Napoli, West Ham, and Chelsea. However, United’s main concern is that Suzuki’s value could soar if he performs well at the upcoming World Cup.
Currently, his market value stands at €20 million (as per Transfermarkt), but it could double if the former Urawa Red Diamonds goalkeeper shines in the United States.
Parma, on their part, would prefer to sell to an English club, especially after Giovanni Leoni’s transfer to Liverpool became their fifth most lucrative deal.
Whether Manchester United can afford Zion Suzuki this summer remains uncertain, given that the club also intends to strengthen in midfield, defence, on the flanks, and in attack.
