Friends, as we all know that WhatsApp is the world's most popular instant messaging app, which has more than 3 billion users all over the world, has taken an important step to protect these users, WhatsApp is taking strict action against the misuse of its platform in India, banning millions of accounts every month in compliance with the country's Information Technology (IT) rules. In its new monthly compliance report for September 2024, WhatsApp revealed that it has banned a total of 8.58 million accounts. Let's know the full details about it

WhatsApp reported that it has banned a total of 8.58 million accounts in India during September 2024. This ban is part of ongoing efforts to prevent abuse, protect user privacy.

A notable feature of these bans is that 1.65 million accounts were proactively blocked even before any complaint or policy violation was reported. This proactive approach helps prevent harmful accounts from becoming active on the platform in the first place.

WhatsApp uses an abuse detection system that works at three main stages of the account lifecycle:

Registration: Preventing malicious or fake accounts from being created.

Sending messages: Monitoring suspicious behavior during communications.

Negative feedback: Acting on reports of abuse from users.

User complaints and action taken reports: WhatsApp also received 8,161 complaints from users in September, of which 97 complaints were “actioned”.

Grievance Appeal Committee orders: WhatsApp complied with two orders from the Grievance Appeal Committee during the month, reflecting its commitment to comply with the regulatory framework set by Indian authorities.
