It explained that cybercriminals have started implementing a new approach to defraud consumers. They mainly pretend to allow users to redeem reward points through fake APK links. The bank says it will never provide links via SMS or WhatsApp. Consumers are warned to be careful. For those who don't know, APK stands for Android Application Package. APK is an application file format used by the Android operating system to distribute and install apps on devices. However, the bank said in an ex post that fraudsters are sending APKs and SMS to redeem SBI reward points.
According to Ex Post SBI will never provide links or unsolicited APK through SMS or WhatsApp. SBI requests its customers not to click on such links or download unknown files.
