SBI Warning: New fraud in the name of reward points.. If you click that link your account will be empty

Recently, customers have been receiving frequent messages about fake reward point redemption notifications, it said. SBI offers points as a corporate-wide loyalty program to its customers for routine transactions through various banking channels. Also the value of each point is 25 paise. The bank advised the customers not to click on any links or download any applications or files sent by SBI customers through SMS or WhatsApp. In view of increasing incidents of spam and fraud, SBI has asked its customers to be cautious. It explained that cybercriminals have started implementing a new approach to defraud consumers. They mainly pretend to allow users to redeem reward points through fake APK links. The bank says it will never provide links via SMS or WhatsApp. Consumers are warned to be careful. For those who don't know, APK stands for Android Application Package. APK is an application file format used by the Android operating system to distribute and install apps on devices. However, the bank said in an ex post that fraudsters are sending APKs and SMS to redeem SBI reward points. 

 

According to Ex Post SBI will never provide links or unsolicited APK through SMS or WhatsApp. SBI requests its customers not to click on such links or download unknown files.
