State Bank of India (SBI), the country's largest public sector bank, has warned against fraudulent messages being sent to its customers. In a post on its official Twitter account, it shared details of the scam with its customers.
With each point worth 25 paise, SBI offers reward points to customers for payments made through its banking channels. Many users accumulate these points over months without redeeming them, leading hackers to target them. Fraudsters send APKs and messages through SMS and WhatsApp to redeem these SBI reward points.
SBI Bank also clarifies that it never sends emails/calls/ attachments or unsolicited APKs through SMS or WhatsApp. The bank has warned customers not to click on any links sent through SMS or WhatsApp, not to download any applications or files, and to stay safe.
SBI makes it clear to its customers that it does not conduct or organize any lottery scheme or sweepstakes. Also, no gift offers are given by the bank. It warns that criminals are using these fake offers to trap customers and cheat them out of money. Customers are advised not to trust these fake callers or forwarded messages on WhatsApp.
