Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho reflected on his side’s convincing win over Rayo Vallecano. The Portuguese manager called the result “fundamental” after their previous league defeat and the physical strain accumulated from European competition.

Mourinho admitted his team are playing with strong attacking intent, though he also pointed to a lack of accuracy in front of goal. “We’re scoring a lot, but we’re also missing far too many chances. We’re a frantic team that wins the ball back and accelerates,” said the Real Madrid manager. He also underlined the massive effort put in by players such as Jude Bellingham, Denzel Dumfries and Ibrahima Konate.

On squad rotation, the Portuguese coach said Federico Valverde was taken off as a precaution because of discomfort in his Achilles tendon, stressing that the squad must be managed carefully during such a demanding run of matches.
