Igor Jesus added to Aston Villa’s woes by scoring late to secure Nottingham Forest a 2-1 win at Villa Park.

Jesus found the net in the 88th minute to hand Forest their first victory under new manager Oliver Glasner, while Villa were left still searching for a win after four Premier League matches.

Liam Delap began to justify his £50m price tag when he put Forest ahead just 45 seconds into the second half.

Villa briefly responded and at least managed to score their first goal of the league season through Alysson, but Jesus had the final word.

Unai Emery is having to rebuild after a difficult summer in which several important players were sold, but progress has been slow and Villa now sit in the bottom three.

The outlook is far brighter for Forest, who claimed their first win of the season — and their first at Villa Park since 1994 — with Glasner now unbeaten in eight matches against Emery.

The game might have taken a very different course had Villa gone ahead early on.

They would have wondered if they were destined never to end their scoring drought after a remarkable sequence in the sixth minute somehow failed to produce a goal.

Emiliano Buendia’s cross found Victor Lindelof, whose effort struck Murillo’s leg and was clawed away by Matz Sels, with replays indicating that part of the ball had crossed the line.

Matz Sels produced a remarkable save.

The Belgium goalkeeper’s intervention sent the ball onto a post, and Murillo’s clearance then rebounded off Lindelof, forcing Sels into another sharp reflex save.

Forest then settled into the contest, and James McAtee’s deflected strike was well dealt with by Zion Suzuki before Morgan Gibbs-White shot straight at the Japan international after the ball broke kindly for him.

The visitors should have gone into the interval ahead after Neco Williams squandered an excellent opportunity.

Forest moved the ball smartly down the right and McAtee picked out the Wales international in plenty of space on the edge of the area, but he sent his first-time effort over the crossbar.

Emery withdrew ineffective record signing Nicolas Jackson at half-time in an attempt to spark an improvement.

Instead, matters got worse as the visitors needed only 45 seconds after the restart to open the scoring.

Delap outmuscled Buendia, was allowed to drive forward and then drilled a low shot from 20 yards into the bottom corner.

Liam Delap delivered an impressive display.

Forest were playing with confidence and created major chances to extend their lead.

Dan Ndoye headed over before seeing another effort bound for goal blocked after Delap had set him up invitingly.

The former Chelsea striker then put the ball in the net once more with an excellent finish from Gibbs-White’s through pass, but he was offside and the goal was disallowed.

Villa sent on summer signings Ibrahim Mbaye and Johan Manzambi, and their introduction altered the flow of the game.

Then, after Mbaye’s curling effort was tipped around the post by Sels, Villa finally ended their drought.

A short corner routine ended with John McGinn delivering a cross that Alysson glanced home for his first goal for the club.

The stage appeared set for a strong home push for victory, but Forest responded.

Daniel Munoz and Xaver Schlager both had headers saved by Suzuki before the decisive moment arrived with two minutes of normal time remaining.

Munoz’s cross was flicked on by Gibbs-White into the path of Jesus, who stabbed in from close range to complete a memorable victory.
