New Delhi. In view of the increasing need of railway passengers and freight, the Central Government is working rapidly on increasing the capacity of the rail network. In this context, many important multitracking projects have been approved. Their objective is to ease the movement of trains on busy railway routes and reduce congestion.
Capacity of rail lines will increase
A large part of the country's rail traffic depends on the approximately 11 thousand kilometer long high-density network of the Railways. The government is moving towards four-laning these seven major routes in a phased manner. These include Delhi-Howrah, Howrah-Chennai, Chennai-Mumbai, Mumbai-Delhi, Delhi-Chennai, Mumbai-Howrah and Delhi-Guwahati routes.
Rs 10,783 crore spent on 3 projects
Under the recent approval, three multitracking projects worth about Rs 10,783 crore will cover 14 districts in five states. This will provide additional lines on busy railway routes and improve the operation of passenger and goods trains.
The new railway lines are expected to increase the capacity to transport goods and give impetus to the transport system. This will strengthen connectivity in industry, trade and sectors.
