Adam Lawrence, the manager of Manchester United Under-21s, has been handed an additional role, according to the Daily Mail.

Lawrence is set to remain in charge of the Under-21s this season after returning to the club midway through the previous campaign.

He had left his post as manager of United’s Under-18s at the end of the 2024/25 season to take up a fresh challenge with Premier League rivals Newcastle United.

Lawrence, who guided the Red Devils to a treble in 2024, was appointed head coach of Newcastle United’s Under-21 side. However, his spell there lasted only three months before he stepped down and returned to Manchester United. He came back to replace Travis Binnion, who had moved up to the first-team set-up following Ruben Amorim’s dismissal.

After his appointment was confirmed on a permanent basis, Michael Carrick decided to retain Binnion within his backroom staff.

That opened the door for Lawrence to continue leading the Under-21s.

Now, the Daily Mail say he has also been given a new UEFA Youth League responsibility.

The report states, “Confidential understands Lawrence is set to take charge of United’s Under 19s on their return to the UEFA Youth League.”

It adds, “He oversaw United’s last Youth League campaign in 2024 and after internal discussions as to whether he or Under 18s boss Darren Fletcher would manage the Under 19s, the job has landed at Lawrence’s door.”

The Red Devils will host Sabah at Leigh Sports Village at 2pm on Thursday, six hours before the two clubs’ respective first teams face each other at Old Trafford.

Carrick and his squad will then turn their focus towards Sunday’s Manchester derby.

Lawrence guided United’s Under-21s to the PL2 play-off final, where they lost to Brighton.
