New Delhi, September 8 (IANS). Hiring in white-collar jobs in India rose 14 percent year-on-year in August. Jobs to Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) played an important role in this growth, which recorded a growth of 31 percent. This information was given in a report released on Tuesday.
According to the report of Naukri.com, this increase in recruitment was recorded despite the late start of the festive season this year. The Jobspeak index of employment increased to 3,028 in August, compared to 2,664 in August last year.
The auto sector recorded a strong growth of 19 percent in recruitment. After this, there was a growth of 16 percent in healthcare and 15 percent growth in retail sector.
Among other key sectors, recruitment in insurance increased by 12 per cent year-on-year. After this, 11 percent growth was recorded in IT, 10-10 percent in Banking and FMCG and 8-8 percent growth in BPO/ITES, Oil & Gas and Real Estate.
According to the report, recruitment in the pharma and biotech sectors remained stable, while there was a decline of 4 percent in hospitality and travel and 8 percent in the education sector.
Recruitment of freshers increased by 15 percent, while recruitment of professionals with 4-7 years of experience increased by 10 percent. There was also strong growth in hiring of professionals with mid-to-senior experience. There was an increase of 16 percent in the recruitment of professionals with 8-12 years of experience, 18 percent in the recruitment of professionals with 13-16 years of experience and 13 percent in the recruitment of professionals with 16 years of experience.
“This growth should be seen in the context of the festive calendar. Last year, the bulk of the festive period was in August, while this year it has shifted to September,” said Hitesh Oberoi, MD & CEO, Info Edge (India) Ltd.
On the basis of work, recruitment increased by 34 percent in Healthcare and Life Sciences, 33 percent in Media Production and Entertainment, 30 percent in Engineering-Hardware and Networks and 29 percent in BFSI, Investment and Trading.
Among metro cities, Hyderabad led the recruitment growth with 23 per cent year-on-year growth. After this, an increase of 22 percent was recorded in Kolkata, 20 percent in Chennai, 14-14 percent in Bengaluru and Pune, 10 percent in Delhi-NCR and 7 percent in Mumbai.
Among emerging cities, Bhubaneswar grew by 32 per cent and Raipur by 23 per cent. Surat and Ranchi also recorded strong growth in recruitment.
In August, recruitment in the IT/software services sector increased by 11 percent on an annual basis. Major metro cities also saw growth. IT recruitment in Kolkata grew by 33 per cent, while Hyderabad recorded a growth of 23 per cent.
Within the IT sector, AI/ML- hiring grew by 22 percent, while demand for IT and information security- positions increased by 32 percent. This reflects the continued strong demand for talented professionals with specialized technical skills.
Recruitment at the Global Capability Center (GCC) increased by 10 percent in August. Hiring growth was strongest in the technology hubs of South India. GCC recruitment in Hyderabad increased by 28 per cent, while Chennai recorded a growth of 21 per cent.
