A four-year Eredivisie title drought feels like a long time for a club of Ajax’s size, but there is growing belief in Amsterdam that the Netherlands’ most successful club are moving back towards the summit.
Last season’s fifth-place finish was a major let-down, with Ajax going through three different managers, including interim appointments. Michel’s arrival during the summer has increased optimism for 2026/27, and collecting seven points from the first nine available marks a positive opening for the Amsterdammers.
This will clearly be Ajax’s toughest examination so far. They will have Rayane Bounida, Daley Blind and Viktor Tsygankov available, while recent arrivals Simon Adingra and Thilo Kehrer could also be involved following their moves.
PSV have played one match more than Ajax and they too remain unbeaten, taking 10 points from the first 12 on offer. Peter Bosz’s team have controlled the division in recent seasons and are favourites to secure what would be a fourth straight title.
As expected, PSV have stayed committed to the aggressive attacking approach that has served them so well in recent years. Even though they are the away side, they are likely to take the initiative against Ajax this weekend.
However, the Boeren will be without Alassane Plea, Kiliann Sildillia, Sami Ouaissa, Jerdy Schouten and Dennis Man for the trip to the Johan Cruyff Arena.
Ajax 2-2 PSV
Both teams head into this Eredivisie showdown full of confidence after impressive starts to the season, but an entertaining draw could see them share the points.
