Suresh Raina stated that explosive opener Abhishek Sharma should play Test cricket. He questioned whether IPL team owners and state associations are actively encouraging young players to prioritize the longest format of the game.

Abhishek has a decent red-ball record, having scored 1,071 runs in 24 matches and 37 innings at an average of 30.60 and a strike rate of 70.46, with a century and five fifties.
