Reliance Jio has completed ten years of service. Jio started its journey in September 2016. Today the state's leading mobile operator is Mukesh Ambani's company. A wonderful magic. Today, Reliance Jio has left everyone behind. They currently have a market share of 45.2% in West Bengal. Also 49.1% CAGR.
Reliance Jio has revolutionized the wireless telecommunication market in West Bengal in the last decade since its commercial launch. Despite having no subscribers in August 2016, Jio acquired 5.4 lakh subscribers in its first month of operations (September 2016). And by June 2026 this number has reached 264.9 lakhs. As of June 2026, Jio is the market leader in this circle and holds 45.2% of the total 586.6 lakh wireless connections there.
The performance of the rest can be seen here. Airtel's subscriber base increased from 151.7 lakh in August 2016 to 193.8 lakh in June 2026. The combined subscriber base of Vodafone and Idea, or 'Vodafone Idea', fell from 237.6 lakh to 101.6 lakh. Note that this number reached a maximum of 287.3 lakh in July 2018. BSNL's subscriber base grew from 17.2 lakh to 26.3 lakh (4.4% CAGR). The 'other' category—which included Tata, Reliance Communications, Aircel, Telenor, Videocon and other operators who subsequently exited the market—had its subscriber base drop from 99.9 lakh in August 2016 to zero by April 2018. In fact the market was then narrowed down to only four operators.
