Manchester United have reportedly been given a fresh update over a possible move for Bayern Munich star Harry Kane, who is now expected to sign a new contract.

Kane continues to be linked from time to time with Man Utd, who were said to be in the market for a new striker during the summer transfer window.

Benjamin Sesko settled into his first season at Man Utd as it went on, but the club could still arguably do with more depth in attack, even with Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha and Marcus Rashford in the squad.

Jean-Philippe Mateta and Alexander Sorloth were both mentioned as possible targets for Man Utd, but the club ultimately did not bring in a striker over the summer after prioritising a rebuild in midfield.

Kane has regularly been described as a dream signing, and he is now in the final year of his contract at Bayern Munich.

But Kane is currently in discussions with Bayern Munich over fresh terms, and German journalist Christian Falk says Man Utd have now received a fresh message over signing him, with the indication being that he is increasingly likely to extend his stay.

“I spoke with Herbert Hainer, the club president, about the situation and everybody was saying, ‘relax’; everybody believes a new contract is only a matter of time,” Falk told CF Bayern Insider.

“There are a few issues in the contract talks that still need to be sorted out, but everybody is confident that it will all be resolved. I think in the next month – definitely this year, not next year – we will see a contract announcement.

“I’m really sure that Kane will sign an extension before the end of 2026.

“Then Harry Kane will be off the market for every other club for a long time. Sorry again to his long-time admirers, Manchester United!”

As noted, Man Utd concentrated on reshaping their squad in the summer, spending around £150m to sign Carlos Baleba, Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans.

Man Utd also added Karl Darlow along with several young players, though there is still an argument that they needed to address striker, left wing and/or left-back as well.

Even so, Red Devils manager Michael Carrick has explained why he is satisfied with the club’s business in the summer transfer window.

“I think we’ve brought some really good players into the football club, and improved the squad in different ways, individually but collectively,” Carrick said during a charity golf day for his foundation, speaking to reporters.

“I think we’ve grown. You go into the window and when you come out of it, you want to be stronger than you were at the start. I’m convinced we are that.

“Transfer windows are never straightforward and this window in particular has been challenging for different reasons. There’s a lot of money being spent in and around the league itself, and I think we’ve made the most of the situation that we’ve found ourselves in.

“That’s the world we live in. Teams at certain points are going to spend a lot of money. Sometimes it’s going to be more than what we spend, sometimes maybe not. We’ve got to make the most of what we can and understand where we’re at. I think we’re a very good team, we want to keep getting better.”
