After the poor performance of Team India on recent foreign tours, the Board of Control for Cricket in India held a big review meeting but the absence of Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar from this important meeting raised many questions. Team India's tour of Ireland and England was reviewed in this meeting held at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai. The Indian team did not get the expected success in limited overs cricket on both the foreign tours, after which the board discussed many important issues ranging from the performance to the fitness of the players and the frequent injuries.

The biggest discussion in the meeting was about Ajit Agarkar not attending. Agarkar's current contract is about to expire at the end of September and it was believed that in this board meeting, a major decision could be taken regarding his future and contract extension. However, BCCI Secretary Devjit Saikia made it clear that there was no discussion regarding extension of Agarkar's contract in this review meeting.

Saikia also explained the reason for the absence of the Chief Selector. According to him, the meeting was called at very short notice and Ajit Agarkar was out of Mumbai at that time. It was told that he was present at such a place from where it was not possible to attend the meeting even through video conferencing. Agarkar's absence also made headlines because the selection committee chief's absence in the meeting to review the team's poor performance became a topic of discussion in the cricket world.

In fact, both the recent foreign tours were disappointing for the Indian team. India played a two-match T20I series against Ireland in which the team lost 0-2. After this, the team's performance on the England tour also was not as expected. India lost 1-4 in the five-match T20I series, while the team also suffered a 1-2 defeat in the three-match ODI series. After poor results in limited overs cricket on consecutive overseas tours, the BCCI decided to analyze the team's performance in depth.

Many big names of Indian cricket were present in this important meeting held in Mumbai. Test and ODI captain Shubman Gill, T20I captain Shreyas Iyer, head coach Gautam Gambhir, Cricket Director of Center of Excellence VVS Laxman and several BCCI officials attended the meeting. During the meeting, not only the performance of the team but also the fitness of the players and the frequent injuries were discussed in detail.
