The chairman of Vietnam’s biggest listed company Vingroup continued to gain from the surge of his company shares which reached a new historic peak of VND254,000 (US$9.74) apiece Friday morning.

The gain boosted the 58-year-old chairman’s wealth by $2.7 billion at the time of publishing. His net worth has increased by 36% since the beginning of the year, according to real-time data by Forbes.

The U.S. magazine first included Vuong in its billionaire ranking in 2013 with an estimated net worth of around $1.5 billion, ranking 974th globally.

His fortune has since multiplied by 26 times. Last year, he made his debut in the world’s 100 richest.

His wife, Pham Thu Huong, also benefited from the rise of Vingroup shares as the company’s deputy chairwoman.

Her net worth was at $4.5 billion at the time of publishing, up 8% from Thursday, maintaining her position as the second-richest in Vietnam.

Forbes first recognized her as a billionaire in early February. Her sister, Pham Thuy Hang, also Vingroup deputy chairwoman, is the fourth-richest in Vietnam with a fortune of $3.1 billion.

Together the family of Vuong own $46.8 billion in assets, accounting for 81% of the combined wealth of Vietnam’s eight billionaires.

Vingroup stock was among 27 included in the FTSE Global Equity Index Series last month. The inclusion made Vietnamese stocks more accessible to international investors.

The company’s revenue jumped 72% year-on-year to VND221.92 trillion in the first six months, while post-tax profit surged five-fold to VND20.9 trillion.

Its businesses span real estate, auto manufacturing, ride-hailing services, high-speed rail and satellite development, among others.
