New Delhi:Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and former Delhi Minister Satyendar Jain has got a big relief from Delhi's Rouse Avenue Court and the court has granted him bail in the corruption case to Delhi Jal Board. Along with the bail, the court has directed Satyendra Jain to furnish a personal bond of Rs 2 lakh and two sureties. Let us tell you, Satyendra Jain was arrested by the Anti Corruption Branch (ACB) on August 18. He is accused of alleged irregularities in tenders to sewage treatment plant (STP) projects of Delhi Jal Board.
Allegations of irregularities in the tender process
According to the investigating agency, the case pertains to the process of contracts to upgradation of STP projects of Delhi Jal Board. It is alleged that the terms of the tender were allegedly manipulated and there was criminal conspiracy along with suspicious bribe payments. This case was registered in May 2024 on the basis of a complaint by the Vigilance Directorate of the Delhi government. Under this complaint, a case was registered against Satyendra Jain under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act and the Indian Penal Code.
What did the lawyer say on the arrest?
During the hearing on the bail petition, senior advocate N. appeared on behalf of Satyendra Jain. Hariharan raised questions on his arrest. He told the court that Jain was arrested about 27 months after the FIR was registered. According to the lawyer, during this period Jain was called only once for questioning and the second time he was called, he was arrested. He also argued that the material to the case is mainly in the form of documents and the investigating agency has already taken possession of the necessary documents. Therefore there is no need to keep Jain in custody.
ACB opposed the bail
At the same time, ACB opposed the bail petition. The investigating agency claimed in the court that Jain is a habitual offender and this aspect should also be kept in mind while deciding on bail. Earlier on August 19, the court had refused to declare Jain's arrest illegal. Now after the court order on Thursday, he has got bail in this case.
