With the transfer window now shut in both England and Germany, former Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho is still without a club after his Manchester United contract expired.
Reports on Tuesday had claimed that the 26-year-old was on the verge of joining Brazilian side Palmeiras on a two-year deal, with an option to extend for a further year.
However, respected Brazilian sports journalist Luiz Carlos Largo has said the story was false.
Referring to Brazilian sports channel BandSports, Largo said Palmeiras had acted to reject the rumour, with the Brazilian club calling it “madness”.
He also said the story was started by streamer Spursito, who allegedly used a fake account to circulate the claim.
Sancho had also been linked with a return to Borussia Dortmund, but the Black and Yellows chose to sign Arsenal’s Ethan Nwaneri on deadline day instead.
For now, the future of the former Bundesliga star remains unclear.
