The European Film Festival (EUFF) is returning to Pakistan this month with its fifth edition, bringing European cinema to audiences in three cities.

Organised by the Delegation of the European Union to Pakistan, EUFF 2026 will take place from September 12 to 30. The festival will be held in Islamabad, Sialkot and Jamshoro/Hyderabad.

Islamabad will once again serve as the festival’s main venue. The Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA) will host the opening screenings on September 12 and 13.

Sialkot is being added to the festival’s itinerary for the first time. Screenings there are scheduled for September 16 and 17 at Government College Women University and The Grid by BLCK.

The festival will conclude in Sindh, where the Shaheed Allah Buksh Soomro University of Art, Design and Heritage in Jamshoro/Hyderabad will host screenings on September 29 and 30.

The organisers have not yet revealed the film lineup for this year. Details about the participating films and other activities are expected to be announced before the festival begins.

The previous edition was held in Islamabad, Karachi and Lahore in November 2025. It featured 19 feature-length films and 10 short films representing different European countries.

The 2025 programme included films from countries such as France, Germany, Spain, Ireland, Portugal, Hungary and the Czech Republic. Special screenings for children were also arranged at the festival venues.

The event has traditionally offered more than film screenings. Previous editions included cultural performances, dramatic readings, interactive installations, social dance activities and food stalls.

The festival has also remained accessible to the public, with previous editions offering free entry without advance registration or tickets.

Since its launch in Pakistan in 2021, EUFF has gradually expanded its presence across the country. Earlier editions reached cities including Quetta, Peshawar, Gilgit, Faisalabad, Gujrat, Multan, Karachi and Lahore.

This year’s three-city programme is expected to further strengthen cultural exchanges between Pakistan and Europe while giving local audiences an opportunity to experience European filmmaking and diverse artistic traditions.
