Janmashtami Bank Holiday 2026: If you are thinking of going to the bank to complete any important work on Friday, 4th September, then definitely check the bank holiday before leaving home. This year, bank branches are going to remain closed in many parts of the country on 4 September 2026 on the occasion of Krishna Janmashtami. However, the holiday of Janmashtami is not the same across the country.

Bank holidays may differ in different states and cities depending on local festivals and RBI holiday list. In such a situation, it is important for the customers planning for clearing, cash deposit or withdrawal, important work to bank account or other branch visit to know whether the bank will open or remain closed in their city on 4th September.

In which states banks can remain closed on 4th September?

Under the state-wise bank holiday system of RBI, the functioning of branches in some states and banking circles may remain closed on the occasion of Janmashtami. Bank holiday may be applicable on the occasion of Janmashtami in some other areas including Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh. However, bank holidays vary according to the state and city. Therefore, merely on the basis of Janmashtami being a festival, it is not right to assume that all banks will remain closed in the entire country on 4th September.

Banking holidays in Delhi and surrounding areas on the occasion of Janmashtami will depend on the local bank holiday calendar. Customers living in Noida, Ghaziabad and Delhi should plan to visit the branch only after checking their respective bank branch and local RBI holiday list.

When will banks remain closed in September 2026?

Apart from Janmashtami in September, bank branches will also remain closed on the second and fourth Saturday and Sunday of the month.

If the bank is closed, how will important work be done?

Despite branches being closed, most digital banking facilities remain available to customers. Through UPI, money can be sent and received from apps like Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm and BHIM. Facilities like withdrawing cash from ATM are also usually available. Apart from this, many banking services can be used through internet and mobile banking. Facilities like NEFT and RTGS are also available for online fund transfer.
