New Delhi: Further expanding its use of Artificial Intelligence, the US Army has included Google Gemini as well as ChatGPT and Grok in its military AI platform GenAI.Mil. This will allow millions of American military and civilian employees to use advanced AI tools in a secure government environment. On August 31, the US Department of War announced that Starshield AI's Grok for Government is now available on GenAI.mil. This will help in increasing the use of AI in the daily work and mission tasks of the army.

The US Department of War said on August 31 that Starshield AI's Grok for Government is now available on the GenAI.mil platform. The new version of Grok has been approved to handle Controlled Unclassified Information i.e. CUI at IL5 level. This means it can be used in more sensitive government environments, but it will remain out of systems containing classified information. Grok for Government has features like advanced reasoning, different reasoning modes and creating reusable workflows.

Along with GROC, the Department of War has also launched OpenAI's ChatGPT MIL on GenAI.mil. Both systems are IL5 certified to handle CUI. These AI tools can be used in tasks like market research, procurement work and supply chain management. According to the US Department of War, with these capabilities, military personnel can complete work faster and improve mutual cooperation. Bringing both AI systems together on a government platform reflects the growing use of commercial advanced AI models in the US military.

The Department of War's overarching goal is to use AI as a force multiplier in the US military. This can help employees analyze information, manage workflow and take decisions more effectively. GenAI.mil was launched about nine months ago and since then the platform has grown rapidly. So far, more than 17 lakh unique users from a workforce of more than 30 lakh military and civilian employees have used this platform.
