Manchester United have finally moved on from their Jadon Sancho issue, but although the English forward may have expected several clubs to come forward for him, that has not happened.
There has been talk of interest from clubs in England, yet nothing concrete has emerged. United were right not to activate the option to extend his contract.
The 26-year-old was unable to secure a permanent move at either Chelsea or Aston Villa, and his lack of application on the pitch has been evident to everyone.
Clubs in the Saudi Pro League have also kept their distance, underlining just how limited the market currently is for the England international.
Interestingly, BILD have reported that former club Borussia Dortmund have stepped back into the picture for the ex-United winger after Giannis Konstantelias picked up an injury on his debut.
However, a deal is far from straightforward because of Jadon Sancho and his sizeable financial demands. Unless the attacker removes those hurdles, a transfer may not happen.
“Speculation around Jadon Sancho (26) is now increasing rapidly. The Briton is available on a free transfer after his contract with Manchester United expired.
“Borussia Dortmund would only need to cover his salary. If Sancho is genuinely prepared to give up a signing bonus and agree to a contract heavily based on performance, a return to Dortmund could happen.”
BVB chief Carsten Cramer (57) responded to the rumours on Sky90: “There is hardly a name that excites the people of Dortmund more than Jadon – that is simply how it is, and that has been the case throughout the entire summer break.
“Jadon has done nothing wrong, he is an impeccable young man. But we always handle these matters in the same way, and we do not comment on any names at all.”
If the former Manchester City youngster does not lower his demands, Dortmund will turn their attention to Arsenal attacker Ethan Nwaneri.
Time is running for Jadon Sancho. Although he has some breathing space because he is a free agent, failing to join a club that believes in him could send his career into an even steeper decline.
