New Delhi: Monsoon is still continuing in some parts of the country. Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has shared some such figures, seeing which everyone has been forced to think. In fact, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has said that there has been less rainfall than normal in the month of August, while the temperature has set a new record. Apart from this, IMD has also released its forecast for the last month of monsoon i.e. September.

Rainfall was less than normal in August

According to IMD, about 139.1 mm rainfall was recorded across the country in August against the normal of 190.7 mm rainfall. That means the rainfall in the month was 16.3 percent less than normal. At the regional level, rain deficiency was highest in South India. About 27 percent less rainfall than normal was recorded here.

Even in the first three months of monsoon, rainfall figures have been below normal. During this period, the country received about 421.6 mm rainfall as against the normal of 556.2 mm, which is about 13.8 percent less.

Temperature made record in August

August was also unusual in terms of heat amid lack of rain. According to IMD, the average temperature of August was 28.01 degrees Celsius, which is 0.67 degrees more than normal. This is said to be the biggest temperature increase recorded in August since 1901. The night temperature was also higher than normal. The average minimum temperature of the month was recorded at 24.36 degrees Celsius, which is 0.68 degrees more than normal.

How will the rain be in September?

Now everyone’s eyes are on September, because it is the last month of monsoon. According to IMD, about 91 percent of the normal rainfall is expected across the country in September. The normal rainfall of September is considered to be 167.9 mm.

However, some parts of the country may receive normal or above normal rainfall. There is a possibility of better rain in some areas of North-West, North-East, East, East-Central and South-Eastern regions.

Less relief from heat even in September

The Meteorological Department has also predicted that the average temperature in most parts of the country in September may be higher than normal. This means that in the last month of monsoon, along with rain, heat can also trouble people.
