Fake notes worth about Rs 17 crore have been found in the currency chest of Punjab National Bank in Saharanpur. This matter came to light during the audit of the bank. After the matter came to light, three bank officials were suspended till around 3 pm on Monday afternoon. In the CCTV video, a part-time housekeeper is seen taking out money from bundles of notes. FIR has been registered against 4 people in Sadar Bazar police station in this case.

FIR lodged against these people

Based on the complaint of PNB Meerut Chief Manager and Investigating Officer Arun Kumar Choubey, the police have registered a case. The names of Senior Divisional Manager Ravi Kumar Kanse, Currency Chest Manager Sushil Kumar, Currency Chest Manager Amit Kumar posted in Yamunanagar-Jagadhri and Housekeeper Vishal Kumar are included in the FIR. The bank has suspended three officers. Now the bank has started investigating the case at its own level also. There is a possibility that this case may be handed over to CBI.

Rs 4.30 lakh less was received in the amount sent to Jaipur.

The matter came to light after a reduction in the amount sent from PNB's currency chest in Saharanpur to Jaipur was found. A few days ago, at the PNB branch located at Ghantaghar, part-time housekeeper Vishal Kumar was given the responsibility of arranging bundles of notes worth Rs 11.50 crore in the currency chest, which included neck, cut and other types of notes. The banks had to give this amount to the Jaipur Currency Chest of RBI. The amount was sent to Jaipur on 5th August. When the notes were counted there, Rs 4,30,900 less was found, after which Jaipur Currency Chest informed the PNB officials based in Meerut.

Housekeeper seen taking out notes in CCTV footage

The bank sent Chief Manager Arun Kumar Choubey to Saharanpur for investigation. He along with the bank officials examined the footage of the CCTV cameras installed in the currency chest. In this, part time housekeeper Vishal Kumar was seen taking out money from bundles of notes. On the basis of CCTV video, the bank fired Vishal Kumar from work. Apart from this, an FIR was lodged against him for stealing money.

Audit of currency chest started from August 9

After the irregularities to the housekeeper came to light, the bank started the audit of the currency chest on August 9. The investigation team matched the cash and records present in the chest and during the audit, irregularities came to light. When the amount kept in the currency chest was examined, fake notes worth about Rs 17 crore were found. The discovery of such a large number of fake notes created panic among the bank officials.

DIG said- case against four in currency chest case

In the matter, DIG Abhishek Singh said that a case has been registered against three officers on the complaint of the chief manager of the bank. A case of theft of money has also been registered against the part-time housekeeper. The bank is investigating the case at its level. Police has also started investigating the entire matter.
