So far, forensic examination and DNA sample collection of 280 bodies have been done out of 321 bodies found from the coastal areas of Trishuli and Narayani rivers after the severe floods in Nepal. These dead bodies have been kept safely at the management site in Devghat, Chitwan.
According to Bharatpur Hospital spokesperson Dr. Ramprasad Sapkota, since the night of 26th August, the dead bodies recovered from Trishuli river were being brought to the hospital and kept safe by the security personnel.
From the morning of 27th August, by deploying a team of doctors under the leadership of forensic experts, the work of forensic investigation required for identification of dead bodies, collection of biological samples including DNA and keeping of records was started.
According to Chief Superintendent of Police Rameshwar Paudel, District Police Office Chitwan, so far 321 bodies have been recovered from Trishuli and Narayani rivers.
Of these, 12 bodies have been identified and taken away by their relatives. The recovered bodies include 66 women, 116 men, 7 boys, 6 girls and 126 bodies whose identity or condition is not clear.
Superintendent of Police Paudel said that to ensure identification in future, the dead bodies have been kept safely at the management site in Devghat as per international standards. 96 bodies were managed on Bhadra 13, 103 on Bhadra 14 and 81 bodies were managed on Bhadra 15.
He said that the search for dead bodies on the river bank is still going on every day. The process of bringing the bodies recovered from the river to Bharatpur Hospital and keeping them safely at the management site at Devghat after forensic examination and DNA sample collection is continuing.
