Cuttack: A two-day workshop was organized in Cuttack on effective action and strong prosecution in drug trafficking and cases. Judicial officers, public prosecutors, officers from Odisha Police, Excise Department and NCB participated in the workshop organized in joint collaboration with Narcotics Control Bureau and Judicial Academy, Cuttack.
Discussion on challenges of action against drugs
In the workshop, experts shared their experiences on importance of evidence, investigation of cases, prosecution and changing nature of law under the NDPS Act. Justice SK Sahu, former Chief Justice of Patna High Court, discussed the evaluation of evidence in NDPS cases and the common shortcomings due to which the accused are acquitted by the court.
Former NCB Director General Bibhuti Bhushan Mishra highlighted the challenges faced by drug enforcement officers. At the same time, former NACIN director Srinivasan Gopal informed about the changes taking place in the Narcotics Law.
Punjab ANTF shared better strategy of action
Ashwini Gotyal, AIG, ANTF, Punjab Police, shared best practices in anti-drug action. Zonal Director, NCB Bhubaneswar briefed on the vision document of narcotics control, new modalities of drug trafficking and recent legal changes.
