Banks in certain locations will observe holidays between August 31 and September 6, 2026. During this period, bank branches may remain closed for up to two days; however, these holidays will not apply uniformly across the entire country, as some are specific to certain states and cities.

According to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) holiday calendar, banks remain closed every Sunday. Additionally, banks observe holidays on the second and fourth Saturdays of every month. Consequently, all public and private sector banks across the country were closed on Sunday, August 30. Bank branches will now open at their usual times on Monday, August 31. Banking services are expected to operate normally for five to six days this week. Notably, since September 5 (Saturday) is the first Saturday of the month, banks will remain open on that day.

**Banks Closed in Many Cities on September 4**

The main holiday this week falls on Friday, September 4. On this day, bank branches in several cities will remain closed due to the occasion of Janmashtami. These cities include Ahmedabad, Aizawl, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Dehradun, Gangtok, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Jammu, Kanpur, Kochi, Kolkata, Lucknow, Patna, Raipur, Ranchi, Shillong, Shimla, Srinagar, Thiruvananthapuram, and Vijayawada. Following this, banks across the country will observe their regular weekly holiday on Sunday, September 6. Therefore, if you reside in any of these cities and intend to visit a bank branch for any work, it is important to keep the holiday on September 4 in mind.

**Banks to Remain Closed for 3 Days Next Week as Well**

Bank holidays will continue into the following week. Banks may remain closed for three days between September 7 and September 13; however, not all these holidays will apply nationwide. On Friday, September 11, banks in Jaipur city will remain closed due to elections taking place within the Jaipur Municipal Corporation area. Subsequently, on Saturday, September 12, banks across the country will be closed as it is the second Saturday of the month. This day also marks the *Tirubhav Tithi* (death anniversary) of Srimanta Sankardev. Banks will also remain closed on Sunday, September 13.

Online operations will continue even when banks are closed.
Bank branches being closed does not mean that banking services will come to a complete halt. Even on holidays, customers can use digital services such as UPI, ATMs, internet banking, and mobile banking. Additionally, online services like NEFT and RTGS remain available. Banking apps and digital services can generally be used 24/7; therefore, essential tasks—such as transferring money or checking account balances—can be performed online even on bank holidays.
