The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has told its players to refrain from commenting on the jail term of former skipper Imran Khan. The new instructions were given after the media in England tried to speak to the cricketers on the issue of Imran’s imprisonment back in the country. The controversy started when Sky Sports interviewed Imran’s sons and broadcast it during the lunch break on Day 2 of the ENG vs PAK second Test at Lord’s.

Pakistan head coach Sarfaraz Ahmed was clueless and said players were having lunch when the interview was aired. According to him, none of the players watched it. “We are not aware of anything as we were having lunch,” he said when a reporter asked him about PCB’s threats of boycotting the game.

Former players of different countries have started speaking for the legendary all-rounder, and even some of the big names in Pakistan are coming out in support of Imran.

Javed Miandad called Imran an honest man and requested the authorities to provide his former captain and teammate proper treatment. He wants Imran’s release from prison. Moin Khan reminded the current and former Pakistan players of Imran Khan’s contributions, urging them to support the veteran, who has been behind bars for three years.

PCB was not pleased with the interview, and it decided against making it a political issue as the Pakistan team will meet Prince Charles on September 2. The diplomatic relations between the two countries are good, so the Pakistan Cricket Board avoided escalating the matter and decided to continue playing the Test series. The sub-continent team is in England for three Test matches.

The 73-year-old Imran Khan has been in Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi since 2023 after being convicted in several cases. However, he has denied any wrongdoing and accused the current government of trying to harm him.

His detention and health concerns have led to criticism from several high-profile cricketers. Some of the Greats of the Game have written two letters to the decision-makers in Pakistan on Imran’s treatment, requesting proper treatment and care for the cricketer.
