The Mavericks and former head coach Jason Kidd mutually agreed to part ways in May, but the 53-year-old remains interested in continuing his coaching career, writes Grant Afseth of Dallas Sports Journal.

Kidd is currently in the Philippines for an NBA- fan event. He indicated in an interview with Rappler (YouTube link) that he’d be open to future coaching opportunities.

“I would never say no to coaching, maybe somewhere down the future,” Kidd said. “But right now, I’m just at home really trying to enjoy my family. And then also just watching the game and seeing if I can help others.”

“Still from the coaching side, I’m always talking to Jalen Brunson and to Giannis (Antetokounmpo),” Kidd continued. “So just trying to help others now that I’m not coaching.”

Kidd, who coached Brunson in Dallas and Antetokounmpo in Milwaukee, compiled a 205-205 record in five seasons as the Mavs’ head coach. He helped the team advance to the Western Conference Finals in 2022 and the NBA Finals in 2024, but Dallas missed the playoffs each of the past two seasons.

The second overall pick in the 1994 draft, Kidd was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2018 for his standout playing career, which included 10 All-Star appearances in 19 seasons. He immediately transitioned to coaching after retiring as a player in 2013, spending one season as Brooklyn’s head coach and parts of four years as the Bucks’ top coach. He was an assistant with the Lakers for two seasons prior to being hired as Dallas’ head coach.

Kidd reportedly still had four years and $40MM+ left on his contract when he left the Mavs.
