Several mobile phones and banned items including cash have been recovered from Aftab Ahmed Ansari, who was sentenced to life imprisonment in the American Center terror attack in Kolkata, the capital of West Bengal. Aftab Ansari is imprisoned in Kolkata's Presidency Jail. According to the information, on August 23, 2026, officers raided the Presidency Jail. During this time, banned items were found in Aftab Ansari's cell. Investigation is going on rapidly in this matter. There are chances of action being taken against many employees of Presidency Jail.

According to the information, three mobiles including iPhone, several SIM cards, two Jio routers, one Secure Eye device, two pen drives, OTG storage device, wireless earbuds and Rs 31,000 were recovered from Aftab Ansari in the jail. These notes were of denomination of Rs 500. A case has been registered after banned items including mobile and cash were recovered from terrorist Aftab Ansari. Investigation is being done as to how these things reached Aftab Ansari and how the jail officials were not informed about them. Aftab Ansari will also be interrogated to find out with whom the terrorist was in contact while in jail.

There was a terrorist attack on the American Center in Kolkata at 6:30 am on 22 January 2002. The bike-riding terrorists had opened fire on the policemen present for security outside the American Centre. In which five policemen were martyred. Whereas, 20 were injured. In this case, the charge of conspiracy against Aftab Ansari was proved. He was sentenced to death. Which was converted into life imprisonment by the Supreme Court. Since then Aftab Ansari is in Kolkata's Presidency Jail. Finding banned items and cash with Aftab Ansari clearly shows the connivance of some people in the jail in this. West Bengal CM Subhendu Adhikari always says that his government will not spare anti-national elements.
