In Maharashtra, Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Deepke is running the Fix the Schools campaign regarding the condition of government schools. Under this, he visited many villages of Hingoli district and took stock of the school arrangements and facilities provided to the children. During this, he raised questions about the dilapidated buildings of schools, the quality of mid-day meals and lack of basic facilities.

Abhijit Deepke claimed that in some schools the expiry date of food items kept for mid-day meal had passed six-seven months ago. He said, 'I want to ask the ministers, MLAs and officials whether they feed expired food to their children also?' He said that children getting such food is a matter of serious concern and responsibility for it should be fixed.

Abhijeet Deepke made serious allegations

Abhijit Deepke alleged that in many government schools, even drinking water and usable toilets are not available for children. At many places there are no benches for children to sit and there are not enough teachers. He said that if even today children in government schools have to study sitting on the floor, then serious questions arise about the system. He said that only when children get better schools and facilities will they be able to move ahead. Deepke also alleged that political parties were giving priority to gaining power rather than the needs of children.

Deepke also inspected a school in Kadoli village of Hingoli. He claimed that the school building was constructed in 1950 and no work was done in the building since then. He demanded accountability from the government and local administration for improving the condition of schools.

After Maharashtra, preparations for the campaign across the country

Abhijeet Deepke had started the 'Fix the School' campaign from his native village Santuk Pipri on August 15. After this he visited schools in many areas including Lohegaon, Karanjal, Jamdaya, Jambrun and Khillar. Deepke says that the campaign will be taken to other taluks of Maharashtra and later there are plans to run it as a social audit across the country.
