New Delhi: Former Congress president and leader of opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi has demanded from Prime Minister Narendra Modi to order the registration of an FIR as soon as possible under the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act against the culprits in the purification case done after the program of party president Mallikarjun Kharge in Uttarakhand. He said that Congress President Kharge was insulted in Haldwani, Uttarakhand and he should get justice at any cost.

He said that his leader has been deeply insulted. The Congress President will get justice only when an FIR is registered against the criminals who purged his platform and they are punished. Rahul Gandhi said in a press conference at the party headquarters Indira Bhawan here on Saturday that there is a fight going on between two ideologies in the country. One is the ideology of the Constitution and the other is the ideology of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). He said that the Constitution has declared untouchability a crime but even today incidents of discrimination and atrocities are happening against Dalits.

Rahul Gandhi's pain – be it cricket or business, discrimination happens everywhere

He said that Dalit children are made to clean toilets in schools, are prevented from taking water from wells and separate cups are kept for them at tea shops. Even today, on happy occasions like marriage, Dalits have to wear helmets when they go in procession on horses, because they are attacked. Rahul Gandhi said that the more successful a Dalit person is, the more strongly he is attacked. Whether he is successful in business, cricket or any other field, attacks are made against him.

He said that the same mentality is visible with Dalit leaders also. The Congress leader said that the Congress President's rally was held in Haldwani on August 8 and after that the rally stage was purified. This is not only an insult to the Congress President, but an insult to every Dalit person in the country. 'Purification' after a Dalit person attends a program is another name for untouchability and is a crime according to the Constitution. He said that it has been almost 20 days since this incident, but no action has been taken yet.

Rahul Gandhi's ultimatum to PM Modi

Rahul Gandhi said, “Our demand is that FIR should be registered as soon as possible against those who carried out purification in Uttarakhand. The Prime Minister says that he respects Dalits, so he should ensure action against those associated with his party and government.” He has demanded from the Prime Minister that an order be given to register an FIR under the SC-ST Act against those doing 'purification' in Uttarakhand. This case reflects the mentality of BJP and RSS and it is the responsibility of the government to get justice to Mallikarjuna. The Congress leader said, “Our demand is that the government should take immediate action in this matter and if it does not then the reaction on this is natural.”
