Manchester United are only hours away from the transfer deadline and still have not brought in a new left-back.

After choosing to part ways with Tyrell Malacia, United entered the summer transfer window looking to reinforce the left side of defence, with Luke Shaw currently the only natural senior left-back at Old Trafford.

United have explored a number of options in the market and have been heavily linked with players such as Lewis Hall and Alejandro Balde. It has now emerged that another prominent name was also under consideration.

It is understood that United are still keeping tabs on possible left-back targets and “could make their move if the right opportunity becomes available” before Tuesday’s deadline.

The 24-year-old former Chelsea player had a good season at Aston Villa and played an important part in their Europa League success.

In response, Villa are preparing to offer Maatsen a new contract in an effort to fend off interest from United.

“There was no contact between the clubs but Villa do not want to sell Maatsen, who started the season opener against Brighton, and he is expected to be offered new terms soon,” the report states.

United’s only other left-back option is youngster Harry Amass, but he is expected to leave the club, most likely on loan. Because of that, the hunt for reinforcements is likely to continue until the window shuts.

Aston Villa keen on Amad

Aston Villa, meanwhile, are also reported to have made an approach for United winger Amad.

Recently, a report was relayed claiming that United had received an offer from Villa for the Ivory Coast winger.

However, Amad is said to dream of winning the Premier League title with the Red Devils. In addition, there is nothing to suggest that United are willing to entertain offers for their technically gifted wide player.
