Barcelona vice-president Rafa Yuste has this week responded strongly to Atlético Madrid chief executive Miguel Ángel Gil Marín. His reaction came after the Atlético official accused figures in positions of authority at Camp Nou of using underhand tactics during the club’s ongoing attempt to sign Julián Alvarez.
Alvarez, of course, has continued to dominate football headlines in Spain throughout the week.
After the Argentine received a harsh reception from the Atlético supporters during his first appearance of the new season last weekend, Barcelona took the opportunity to publicly restate their intention to bring Alvarez to the Catalan capital before the end of the summer window.
That did not go down well at all behind the scenes in Madrid, with the Rojiblancos’ CEO Gil Marín subsequently making clear the club’s collective feeling of “disgust with the lies, lack of transparency and professionalism of Barça”.
And, as mentioned above, the saga rolled on again on Friday.
Asked about Marín’s comments during his own media appearance, Barcelona vice-president Rafa Yuste offered a firm response:
“Barcelona have been a model of professionalism in the football world for many years. Atletico CEO Gil Marín’s statements about us and Julián crossed a red line and they made me angry.”
