Tech News: A child mental health case pending in a California court against Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has taken a major turn. Meta was accused of designing Facebook and Instagram in such a way that young children would become addicted to it. Even before the judgment of this case, Mark Zuckerberg has made a historic agreement (settlement) of approximately 1.5 lakh crore rupees.
Following this agreement, Facebook and Instagram are going to make some important changes to protect children and reduce screen time.
Major Changes in Facebook and Instagram:

2 Hours Strict Limit: For users under 18 years of age, a maximum usage limit of 2 hours per day will be set. This will reduce children’s screen time and allow them to spend time outside playing sports or other activities.

Ban and Feed Controls on Beauty Filters: Beauty filters will be banned on apps to reduce appearance and insecurity- mental stress among children. In addition, there will be new features to deactivate the algorithm feed and hide like-reactions.

Block app access at night: Access to the app will automatically stop from 12 pm to 6 am. Additionally, all notifications will be on silent mode from 10 pm to 7 am.

School Mode: Notifications will be silent during school hours (8 am to 3 pm) so as not to distract children while studying in the classroom.

Mindfulness / Break Reminder: Kids will get a break reminder to step away from the screen after using the app continuously for more than 15 minutes.
