CTET Exam Postponed 2026: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has postponed the 22nd Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) following a directive from the Supreme Court. Additionally, the Board has reopened the application window for the CTET exam. This provides another opportunity for candidates who were unable to register earlier. Interested and eligible candidates can now submit their applications until September 1, 2026.
According to the official notice issued by the CBSE, the application window has been reopened in light of the Supreme Court's ruling regarding the mandatory Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) qualification for teachers. The Board stated that this additional opportunity is being provided to ensure eligible teachers have sufficient time to meet the qualification requirements. CBSE is conducting the 22nd CTET; a total of 21 editions have been held so far, with the results of the 21st edition declared on March 30.
In its official notice, the CBSE stated, "The Supreme Court has emphasized the need to provide eligible teachers with a fair opportunity to fulfill the legal requirement of obtaining the prescribed TET qualification. In view of this, and in the broader interest of candidates, it has been decided to reopen the online application portal from August 25 to September 1, 2026, to give a chance to all eligible candidates who could not avail themselves of the previous application window." The notification for the 22nd CTET was issued on May 8, and online applications were accepted from May 11 to June 10.
When will the CTET 2026 exam be held?
With the reopening of the application window, candidates are also keen to know the revised date for the CTET exam. The CBSE has stated that the revised exam date will be announced after the application portal closes on September 1. It is worth noting that the exam was originally scheduled to take place in September.
