FIGC withdraws backing for Gianni Infantino’s candidature
Federation president Malagò said: “We will continue to work alongside UEFA and the other European federations to promote an idea of football based on merit, solidarity, sustainability and the central role of the fans.”
The Italian Football Federation has decided to withdraw its support for Gianni Infantino’s candidature in the FIFA presidential election scheduled for March 2027.
The move is intended to state the FIGC’s position clearly and transparently, in full agreement with UEFA and its president Aleksander Čeferin, regarding the recent initiatives promoted by the FIFA president on governance and the development of international competitions.
Malagò’s words
“We will continue to work alongside UEFA and the other European federations to promote an idea of football founded on merit, solidarity, sustainability and the central role of the fans,” said FIGC president Giovanni Malagò. “We identify with a model of dialogue, listening and shared responsibility that has so far enabled football to grow, innovate and at the same time defend its founding principles.”
