IND vs SL Live: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has taken disciplinary action against Yashasvi Jaiswal and Asitha Fernando following their heated altercation during the second Test between India and Sri Lanka in Colombo. Both players have been fined 25% of their match fees and handed one demerit point each for the incident, bringing an official end to the disciplinary proceedings surrounding their on-field confrontation.

Yashasvi Jaiswal, Asitha Fernando Fined 25% Of Match Fees

Jaiswal and Fernando were involved in a tense exchange during the opening day of the second Test at the Sinhalese Sports Club in Colombo.

The confrontation came shortly after Fernando dismissed Jaiswal for 45 runs from 53 balls. The Sri Lankan pacer appeared to give the India opener an animated send-off, after which Jaiswal turned back and confronted him.

The situation escalated as the two players moved close to each other before Sri Lanka captain Dhananjaya de Silva and other players intervened.

The incident attracted considerable attention because of the apparent physical contact between the two players and prompted scrutiny under the ICC Code of Conduct.

No Ban For Jaiswal Or Fernando

Despite the severity of the incident, neither Jaiswal nor Fernando will face a suspension.

Both players had no previous offences recorded against them during the preceding 24 months. As a result, the sanctions remain limited to a 25% match-fee fine and one demerit point each.

The demerit points will remain on both players' disciplinary records for two years.

The punishment means India will not lose Jaiswal to a suspension as a result of the Colombo confrontation, while Fernando is also available to continue representing Sri Lanka.

Jaiswal Had Earlier Addressed The Clash

Following the incident, Jaiswal suggested that viewers should know the full context before judging what happened on the field.

The India opener said that if people did not know what had been said during the exchange, they should not rush to make a judgement.

India's batting coach Sitanshu Kotak also acknowledged that emotions had taken over during the confrontation, although he admitted that Jaiswal should not have moved so close to Fernando.

The ICC's decision now closes the disciplinary chapter on an incident that became one of the major talking points from the opening day of the Colombo Test.
