New Delhi: Monsoon has become active again in many states of the country. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy to very heavy rain at some places in Chhattisgarh, East Madhya Pradesh and Odisha on Monday, August 24. The possibility of heavy rain has also been expressed in some other areas including Bihar, Delhi. On the other hand, there is a possibility of mostly scattered rains in Gujarat and there is no widespread warning of heavy rains.
Heavy rain warning for Delhi
Cloudy weather was seen in Delhi since morning. As per the latest sub-divisional warning of IMD, heavy rainfall has been warned at some places in Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi region for August 24.
Delhi recorded a minimum temperature of 27.8 degrees Celsius on Monday. The lowest temperature was recorded at 24 degrees in Ridge area and 24.8 degrees in Palam. In the last 24 hours too, there was light rain in different parts of the city.
Due to the rains, there has been some relief in the temperature. Average Air Quality Index (AQI) of Delhi as per CPCB data 105 was registered, which falls in the ‘moderate’ category.
More rain in Odisha-Madhya Pradesh-Chhattisgarh
Chhattisgarh, East Madhya Pradesh and Odisha are likely to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places, according to IMD’s August 24 8.30 am bulletin. Heavy rain is also likely in West Madhya Pradesh. Heavy rain is expected to continue at some places in Odisha from August 24 to 26.
Currently, a low-pressure area is active around Gangetic West Bengal, North Odisha, Jharkhand and North-West Bay of Bengal. As the associated cyclonic circulation extends up to 7.6 km above sea level, rainfall activity is increasing over East and Central India.
Concern over Ganga water level in Bihar
In Bihar, the rising water level of river Ganga has created a flood-like situation in the low-lying areas. The damage to the embankment in Raghopur area of Bhagalpur has increased the risk of water spillage in the surrounding areas and the administration is on alert.
According to reports, Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary has spoken to the West Bengal Chief Minister in view of the rising water level of the Ganges and requested him to open all the gates of the Farakka barrage, so that the flow of water in the Ganges can be helped.
Rains also in South and East India
According to the IMD, rain is also likely in some areas of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Telangana. Tamil Nadu-Puducherry on August 24 and 25 with heavy rain at some places, lightning and gusty winds.
Rain activity is also predicted to continue over West Bengal, Jharkhand, Bihar and many parts of Northeast India in the coming days.
No major warning of heavy rain in Gujarat
Now there is relief news for Gujarat. According to IMD, scattered rain is likely in Gujarat region and Saurashtra-Kutch from August 24 to 29. Widespread heavy rains are not predicted in the state.
According to the latest forecast of the Meteorological Department, Monsoon may be more active in the eastern and central parts of the country in the coming days. People especially in vulnerable areas of Odisha, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh have been advised to keep an eye on fresh warnings from the Meteorological Department.
