Mumbai: For millions of Shah Rukh Khan fans, Mannat is far more than a luxurious sea-facing bungalow. Over the years, the Bandra landmark has become a symbol of the actor’s extraordinary journey from Delhi to Bollywood superstardom. One of the most photographed celebrity homes in India, Mannat regularly draws crowds of fans who gather outside its gates for a glimpse of the superstar.
Now, the iconic property is undergoing renovation, with producer Anand Pandit offering a glimpse into the work currently taking place at Shah Rukh Khan’s home.
Pandit reportedly revealed that his firm is working on two of King Khan’s properties in Mumbai. While renovation work is underway at Mannat, another project involves the redevelopment of the actor’s first home in the city.
According to Pandit, a few floors are being added to the rear portion of Shah Rukh Khan’s sea-facing bungalow in Bandra. SRK has also reportedly sought permission to add two floors to Mannat. The proposed vertical extension is expected to increase the property’s built-up area by 616.02 square metres, with the renovation estimated to cost around Rs 25 crore.
Shah Rukh Khan’s family moves to a luxury apartment
With renovation work underway, Shah Rukh, Gauri Khan and their children Aryan, Suhana and AbRam Khan have reportedly moved temporarily to luxury duplex apartments at Puja Casa in Pali Hill, Bandra. The property is owned by producer Vashu Bhagnani.
Since Mannat is a heritage property and is located close to the sea, the actor has reportedly sought approval from the Maharashtra Coastal Zone Management Authority for the vertical extension.
From Villa Vienna to Mannat
Mannat also has a fascinating history attached to Shah Rukh Khan’s journey. The actor reportedly developed an attachment to the property, then known as Villa Vienna, while shooting for Yes Boss in 1997.
After years of waiting, King Khan bought the property in 2001 from the Bai Khorshed Bhanu Sanjana Trust. Reports have put the purchase price at around Rs 13.32 crore. The house was later renamed Jannat before Shah Rukh Khan eventually settled on the name Mannat in 2005.
Today, the iconic Bandra property is said to be worth nearly Rs 300 crore, making it one of the most valuable celebrity homes in Mumbai.
For the actor, however, its value has always been about more than money. He has famously spoken about his emotional attachment to the house, once saying that even if he became broke, he would sell everything but not Mannat.
With its distinctive architecture, sea-facing location and deep connection to Shah Rukh’s personal story, Mannat has become a landmark of Mumbai and a destination for Bollywood fans. Its renovation, therefore, is attracting attention far beyond the world of celebrity real estate.
