New Delhi: The weather took a sudden turn in Delhi on Monday and a storm along with heavy rain put a brake on the pace of the city. The bad weather had a direct impact on air services. There were problems in the arrival and departure of many flights at Delhi Airport, while many flights had to be diverted to other airports. Airlines have advised passengers to check their flight status before travelling.

Air operations at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport were affected amid heavy rain and strong winds. So far, information about diversion of 15 flights has come to light. Of these, 12 flights were sent towards Jaipur International Airport. The affected flights include 6E 404, IX 1462, IX 1047, AI 4308, AI 2526, IX 1236, IX 136, SG 126, AI 1814, 6E 6125, 6E 2102 and AI 2381.

Air India issued an advisory for passengers saying that due to bad weather, the operation of flights to and from Delhi may be affected. Indigo also gave information about changes in flight timings and delays and said that the weather is being constantly monitored. At the same time, SpiceJet has appealed to the passengers to check the status of their flight in advance.

Rain alert in Delhi-NCR

There has been heavy rain in South Delhi and surrounding areas. The Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for heavy rain and a yellow alert for moderate rain for many districts. There is also a possibility of strong winds along with thunderstorms in some parts of the capital. The speed of these winds is expected to be 30 to 40 kilometers per hour. In view of the increasing activity of monsoon, orange alert has also been issued for Gurugram and Faridabad. In view of the possibility of heavy rain in both the districts, people have been advised to remain alert. There is a possibility of many problems arising due to rain, from roads to air services.

Problems increased on roads due to rain

The effect of heavy rain was also visible on the traffic of Delhi. There was news of a long traffic jam on MB Road near Sangam Vihar. The speed of vehicles was very slow between Vayusenabad and Sangam Vihar. Many passengers complained of being stuck in the traffic jam for about an hour. This jam also affected the people going towards Delhi Airport, offices and Saket Court. During the rains, the already existing traffic pressure in the capital increased further, due to which people took additional time to reach their destination.

The air became better after the rain

The effect of continuous rain was also seen positively on the air quality of Delhi. After the rain in the last two days, improvement in AQI was recorded at many monitoring centres. AQI was 97 in Ashok Vihar, 100 in Aya Nagar, 127 in Bawana, 102 in Cantonment area and 109 in Chandni Chowk. At the same time, AQI was recorded at 83 at Commonwealth Sports Complex, 101 at Mathura Road and 88 at Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Range.
