The Supreme Court on Saturday rejected the petition of 35 candidates to Jharkhand Judicial Service Preliminary Examination-2023 (Civil Judge Junior Division Recruitment). These were the candidates who were left out of the selection list after the release of the revised merit list.

During the hearing, the lawyer appearing for the petitioners told the court that the Jharkhand Government and the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) have already canceled this entire recruitment examination. On this, the Supreme Court said that when the examination itself has been cancelled, then there is no justification for further hearing on this petition. After this the court rejected the petition.

Jharkhand Public Service Commission had conducted the preliminary examination for recruitment to 138 posts of Civil Judge (Junior Division) on March 10, 2024. After the examination the Commission released the Model Answer Key thrice and finally declared the result and cut-off marks on 2nd July 2024. In this result, 1,797 candidates were declared successful.

After the exam results, controversy arose over alleged errors in the model answer key, reservation system and disabled quota. The matter first reached Jharkhand High Court and later reached the Supreme Court. The High Court had given instructions to release the revised results, but it was alleged that the Commission did not follow the order.

After this, the candidates filed a contempt petition in the High Court, on which the court also strongly reprimanded JPSC.

Let us tell you that the Jharkhand government canceled many recruitment examinations after alleged irregularities in the recruitment processes and protests by the candidates. These also include Jharkhand Judicial Services Preliminary Examination. For this reason, the Supreme Court accepted that after the cancellation of the examination, there is no practical basis left for hearing the petition of 35 candidates.
